where can you see whales in South Africa?

Soon I will travel to South Africa, and I think this trip will be quite an adventure for me. I guess taking the fact that I am living in Europe, this will be such a different experience comparing to other journeys that I had in the past. I am also looking forward to see different kind of animals that I never saw in my life before, and some of them are whales. Where can I see these magnificent creatures in South Africa?

Ah you picked the right place for seeing mammals, South Africa. Just be smart and pick the right time of the year and that is the late June when they leave their feeding area Antarctic and swim to the a bit warmer Cape coast to mate and show off with their jumping around through the waves. Sometimes I think they like to be seen. You can see them almost from the road if you go to Cape Town, could be anywhere in False Bay and be able to see these magnificent animals. Not very far from there you have town of Hermanus calling itself as a whale capitol and actually fighting over that title with the town of Plettenberg, placed further east. If you miss June then try to catch their return in November-January period.

South Africa has become renown for great whale watching over the years. This is because the whales like to feed and give birth in the warm and nutrient rich waters along the South African coast line, while migrating.

Hermanus, a coastal town in South Africa, and popular tourist destination, has become known as a great place for whale watching. Unfortunately the town has become very tourist oriented and has therefore lost some its charm. Whales can be seen in abundance all along the South African coast from around May / June, untill November / December while they migrate. The whales use areas like Fish Hoek, in False Bay, to give birth to their young. They like the calm warm bays, where they feel safe from harm.
