Is Barcelona best place to visit for the first trip to Europe?

Hello! I am an American student and I have a great opportunity to come to Europe next month. I have to stay there just for 5 days, and my friends suggested me to visit Barcelona in Spain. Is it best place to visit for the first time in Europe? What are your suggestions about it? Thank you in advance.

If you are limited to stay in Europe just for 5 days, it is not important what city will you visit. Five days are enough to visit one or two cities (not in long distance, of course). Barcelona is nice big city, but no one city can’t represent the whole continent. There are many nations and cultures in Europe, and all of them are different.
