How much time from Sao Paulo to Rio by bus?

I will stay in Sao Paulo for a week or so. Since I can’t stay for long time in one place, I will try to go to Rio in the meantime. I am planning to take a bus to get me there. I would like to know how much time from Sao Paulo to Rio by bus? What is the best time to go?

Well, the best way to do it is to travel by night. The bus leaves around midnight. It takes about 5 – 6 hours or so to reach Rio. If you travel with the company called “1001” (I am not 100% sure that this is the correct name), you will have nice ride in a comfortable bus. They have bathroom, a/c, they let you watch movies, serve lunch/dinner. It costs about US$ 15. So it is a bargain for that kind of service.
