I am going to Mexico City this summer. Even though no one of my friends is interested, even though my girlfriend is constantly arguing with me about this trip, I have decided. I will go there. To be honest, I do not know why I want to go there. I learned a lot about it via internet, even found out that is not a safe place at all (with al those kidnappings). Still, all I need to know is where you can get rest in Mex City?

Perhaps you could give it a try with Casa Gonzales. I have been there 6 months ago and was very much satisfied. Rooms are big, beds comfortable (well, you said you want rest), lots of hot water in the clean bathroom. Food in hotels restaurant was also excellent, there is also a small cafeteria with internet access (fee is very small). Anyway, I am very pleased with this hotel, and if I ever find myself in Mexico City, that is where I will stay.

Mexico is a big country and it's incredibly diverse, so violence along the US border won't have any effect on your vacation in, for example, the Mayan Riviera any more than an earthquake in California would affect people in Chicago. Most of the violence that has taken place recently is due to conflicts between drug cartels and the Mexican authorities. As a tourist, you are in little danger of having trouble as long as you follow common sense safety precautions and don't get involved with drugs.

Research your destination and choose a place that feels right for you. There are plenty of places in Mexico where you can have a tranquil, relaxing vacation. You can also significantly reduce your risk of being a victim of crime by following some important safety tips.
