My brother insists on going to Rwanda. I thought that he was out of his mind but he managed to persuade me to join him. I did resist but it was useless. I gave in (like many times before) and agreed to keep him company. Now, when I come to think about it, I kind of like the idea and am embarrassed to admit that I can’t wait to start the journey. What’s the best way to see Rwanda?

Well, you can take a bus for a start. There are many modern minibuses, plus a few government vehicles that drive down the well-maintained system of sealed main roads. If you want to catch them, the best time is from early morning to early afternoon. After about 15:00 the fares go up substantially and they run less frequently. If you intend to travel by bus (or by any other road vehicle) you have to be prepared for frequent military checkpoints. If you want to hire a car you will have hard time finding one. In order to do that you will have to go to either Kigali or the northern town of Ruhengeri and check out local tourist offices and travel agencies. You have to count to spend on average around 50.00 per day for a 2WD and 100.00 for a 4WD. Beware of the high petrol prices and side roads which are not in a good condition during wet season. Also you should stay away from night driving unless it is totally necessary. If you like to hitch, you will have no trouble since there are many non-governmental organization (NGO) vehicles that regularly track around the country. You will be glad to know that you're unlikely to be asked for money for the ride. They will settle for a nice conversation.
