Backpackers in Joburg

I am a passionate backpacker and I have traveled whole the world practically but never went to South Africa so I need some info on backpackers in Joburg for have heard this city is the backpackers center but still would like to hear how safe it is being a backpacker in Joburg and what hostel you would suggest to me but I would like it to be near the airport for I am planning to hit the sky pretty soon? Thanks much!

It is safe or at least I felt that way 6 month ago –I visited Joburg and the thing is you need to avoid suburbs where you may get in trouble and I don’t think you would have any serious trouble it is more likely you will meet bunch of other backpackers in Joburg. And as for the backpacker hostel I also stayed at one near the airport and not just the airport for it was 10 minutes away from the center and is called Bob’s Bunk House and I had TV and felt like home and had a perfect relax there. It looks like a house and is very pretty arranged and has a pool with clean water and I think it would fit you for it is real backpackers hostel and one of the many in Joburg anyway Joburg is known as a gateway for backpackers.
