| I am a freshmen geology student. I have always had great interest in volcanoes. Since I will go to Hawaii in couple of days, I would like some instruction as to where I can see some volcanoes there. Not to be misunderstood, I know Hawaii is packed with volcanoes. What I would like to know is whether there is some place I can concentrate on, where there are several interesting volcanoes, instead of going all over the islands going to each individually. Thank you in advance. |

| There indeed are a great number of volcanoes in Hawaii. I agree that you go from island to island looking for volcanoes. What you need is Volcanoes National park. There you can see Kilauea volcano. If you spend several days in the park you will be able to go to Crater Rim Drive and Chain of Craters Road. There are many places that could interest you. I think that the most interesting of all will be Puu Oo, which is the vent for the current eruption and contains an active lava pond. Also, you will be able to see such volcanoes as Mauna Loa, Mauna Kea, Kohala, although you cannot go there as near as you can to Kilauea. Nevertheless, it is certain you will see some exciting things, and learn much in addition. |
