I think of surprising my wife with a travel to some of the European cities. She has already seen London and Paris and I have been thinking of going to the East, Athens or Istanbul, for example. What do you think? The plan is still in its early stage, I would just like to know would it be interesting to go to these cities for a New Year's Eve?

I think that you would both enjoy staying in a town that is completely different from what you are used to and doing that around the New Year. That is a great opportunity to meet the culture of the foreign land and enjoy their festivities and the way they celebrate that day. On the other hand, there is always that 10 seconds countdown that is exactly the same, no matter what nation we talk about. As for your dilemma, I would go to Istanbul. Much more exotic and interesting.

Athens is dirty although you get to see the Acropolis - which is amazing.
Istanbul is phenomenal but the Turkish guys are so annoying but I suppose you will have no problems with the Turkish guys.
