My high school team is going to a chess competition I Kiev, and well be there for 2 days. Id like to make the most of that visit and see all the interesting spots of the city. I know its impossible to have a thorough sightseeing for only 48 hours, but I hope you can give me a short list of must-sees in Kiev.

2 days is a short period of time, I admit and well try to blurb the most important details. Kiev is one of the oldest cities in Europe and as such, it has the very rich historical and cultural heritage. Be sure to visit St. Sophia Cathedral which is protected by UNESCO and St. Michaels Golden-Domed Cathedral. In Kiev, the combination of the old, communist architecture style and new, western oriented fashion is pretty noticeable, especially in the downtown, where you can see modern, posh buildings and old, grey ones form the past. Since Ukraine has become western oriented and open to the world, it has become very interesting for tourist so that the city is being polished regularly, and old buildings are being restored.
