Hi, guys. I am planning a trip to PERU with my husband. This will be my first travel to Latin America and it is logical that I have some uncertainties. For instance, I dont know what kind of food I should expect there. I was hoping to hear your impressions. Food is very important part of each travel.

Hello to you too. I dont know what kind of food you are accustomed to. But I can tell you that Peruvian cuisine is unusual, in good sense of way, of course. Various meats and fish are basic in this cuisine. Potatoes are also popular. More than 100 species are grown in this country. Quinoa is grain that is important ingredient. You can find it in soups, salads, drinks, and desserts. It is full of proteins. One of the traditional dishes is Ceviche. It has slices of sweet potatoes. I hope you got the idea. But I think that everyone should try foreign countrys cuisine and then make his own judgment.

One of the world's most popular vegetables, papas (potatoes), were first grown in Peru. The earliest remains of potatoes have been discovered at archeological sites in southern and eastern Peru, dating as far back as 400 B.C. However, it was not until the 1400s that Europeans first came in contact with the potato.
