| There is so much to see in Madrid regardless of the month of your visit. I suggest you see the following things (among many other things you choose): Mudejar-style buildings, such as the church of San Nicolás de los Servitas, the tower San Pedro el Viejo and finally Casa de los Lujanes at Plaza de la Villa. Then you should see Puerta del Sol, in the very center of town. Also there are the Monastery de la Encarnación, Palacio de Uceda, and a beautiful square with interesting buildings: Casa de la Villa, Casa Cisneros and Tower of Lujanes. Just behind you can find one of the best-known and most impressive squares of Madrid, Plaza Mayor, with Casa de la Panadería, an old bakery, and Casa de la Carnicería, an old butchery, as mayor attractions. A statue of Philip III dominates the centre of the square. It would be shame to miss a masterpiece of neoclassic architecture, a chapel called Oratorio del Caballero de Gracia. If you go to Paseo del Prado street you will find beautiful fountains of Cibeles, Apollo and Neptune, the Botanical Gardens and the Astronomical Observatory. The most beautiful park in Madrid is definitely Parque del Retiro Photo. The Crystal Palace and the Velazquez Palace are also a must to see. You can enjoy if you go to the beautiful gardens Jardines del Descubrimiento at Plaza de Colón, with a big statue of Christopher Columbus, who is called Cristobal Colón in Spanish. Centro Cultural de la Villa organizes concerts and other performances each night. The gigantic flea-market, El Rasto Photo, which takes place each Sunday morning in Ribera de Curtidores, is something completely different yet still a part of Madrid. I would also like to point out to the monument you should see, the Templo de Debod Photo, an old-Egyptian temple, which was presented to the city by the Egyptian government and was rebuilt here. |
