Travelling in Brazil in July?

Hi. I am on my gap year and am leaving for Brazil now. I will be there for the whole of the month and maybe longer. I am wondering if there is anyone doing the same so we can perhaps meet up and do some traveling together? I do love traveling alone as you meet a lot of interesting people on the way but I dont know anything about Brazil and dont speak the language

I will be arriving at the end of the month or at the beginning of August I am not sure yet as I am in Mexico at the moment and have no tickets booked yet. I am wondering what other people have to say as to the differences between Brazil and other Latin American countries, as it is the only place where they speak Portuguese? Is the culture a lot different?
