Is Penang a tourist area?

I would like to visit Malaysia this year so I decided to pick some info about this area. I know for sure that I will spend few days in Malacca but then one thing came to my mind. I heard of Penang located in the straits of Malacca, but I know nothing more then this. I wonder if it is a tourist area, so I could spend a few days there.

Of course it is, go there while you are already in Malacca. I mean it carries the name The Pearl of the Orient" do you honestly think it should be passed?! It has great golden beaches, beautiful warm sea, great food and stunning nature. Architecture in Penang represents complete mix of cultures, something old something new, but somehow it became the part of its charm. Ah I should stop here, wishing me there, heh.
