Missing Canadian Backpacker

I thought about spending this year different than last year. I thought to pack my bag and go on a trip. I always wanted to be backpacker. But my mother told me that it is not safe way of traveling. And she also mentioned something about Missing Canadian Backpacker. Can someone tell me something about it?

The truth is that we dont live in the safe time. And now there are much more dangerous things and people than 20 years ago. And I am afraid that it will be worse. But I dont want to sound like some pessimist. Yes Canadian Backpacker (Nicole Vienneau) has gone missing. Nobody knows where she is. Her brother is looking for her. I dont know if he succeeded to find her. But it is really sad story. She was last seen in Syria. I think that the place is called Hama. So, your mother is right. That kind of traveling is not safe.
