Can you sell your miles?

I have been thinking about free miles and I wonder something can you sell your miles? I mean, I am not that eager to exchange them for some ridiculous gifts and upgrades. The only good thing is a free ticket, nothing else. But, to exchange it for money that would be something else. Real profit. For me, I mean.

A far as I know, there is no option to exchange points for real cash. I think that you cannot even just sell your free ticket to anyone (for lesser amount than a regular ticket of course). I think that would be a serious breach pf regulations. The only situation where someone gets money for miles is when you pay the airline because you need some award badly, for example. Though you dont look like someone who would do that. Am I right?
