Train from Almaty to Urumqi

Hi!I was wondering if there is any train that connects Almaty with Urumqi directly. Ive tried to find the Train from Almaty to Urumqi but I couldnt find so many informations online. If there are no direct lines what is the other way to get from Almaty to Urumqi?And the last question is how long is that trip? I hope you will succeed in finding informations about my trip. Thank you.

There was a direct train from Almaty to Urumqi but it is not that frequent. Most of the time people wait for a very long time to catch this train. It depends from where you travel to Almaty.People say it is worth of staying couple of days in Almaty.If you cant find direct line you can take a local bus to the border and than catch the train to Urumqi.The trip from Almaty to Urumqi takes 40 hours and the train should go twice a week. Train is very comfortable. The view from the train during the trip is awesome.First,you can see desert with salt lakes in Kazakhstan and going into China view changes to colored mountains-it is really spectacular. When you get to Urumqi the whole new world is waiting for you!Enjoy!
