This August my destination will be the Basque region in Spain. My mother is panicking about ETA and says she wont have a wink of sleep until I get back. I think shes exaggerating which she tends to do. I know that there are still certain occasional actions, but it seems to me that overall safety situation is moderately good at this point. Whats your opinion?

I understand your mother because I also wouldnt feel comfortable if my kid decided to go somewhere where recently political tensions and terrorist attacks took place, but on the other hand I wouldnt be so worried if I had to go. The times when Basque was in a state of turmoil have passed, and though ETA still leaves suspicious-looking packages on the beach the situation is much better. I suppose that youll stay at San Sebastian. When you get there all your fears and doubts, if there are any, will disappear when you see this great city. Maybe its worth mentioning that San Sebastian is the culinary capital of Spain and that several of its restaurants have Michelin stars.
