Hi guys! I am your neighbor from the States and I need some help. Surprised or not, but this is my first visit to Canada. For all these years I have been living relatively close to Canadian and US border. I am planning to buy some gifts on my way back to the States and I was wondering is there some tax that I have to pay on your border?

Hello neighbor! I really cant believe that you have been living close to our border and never crossed it. Especially if you take into consideration the fact that you dont need anything else but drivers license or any other picture id. I remember when a friend of my told me that he crossed the border with a library pass. Anyway if you are planning on buying presents in Canada there is something you should know when you come to the border. You have a right to ask for some kind of return tax. Return tax is not the official name for that, but it means that you will be paid back about 20 from the amount of money you spend in Canada.
