Hello, folks. Ill travel to Croatia next week. Although I will do sightseeing along their Adriatic Coast, I will be situated in Split. Ive heard it is the largest seaside town in Croatia. Ive heard that beginnings of Split reach long way back in the past. Can someone tell me how old Split is? Is it possible to know? Thanks.

Hello, there. You are right; Split is the biggest city on the Croatian Coast. I think it has about 220.000 habitants. No one can tell you the exact answer to your question. It is considered that Split begins with Diocletians Palace. Diocletian was a Roman emperor. He ruled between 284 and 305 AD. Some would say that Split is older than that and that Greeks inhabited these areas. But I think those are only guesses. Nevertheless, I am sure you will visit Diocletians Palace and enjoy your staying in Split. Good luck!
