I’m going on a business trip to Australia next month and I’d like to be prepared for all the possible differences that exist there, so that I can easily accommodate. I’m usually very concerned about electric plugs and outlets because I have to bring my laptop and charger for the cell phone. Therefore, in order to be able to use my devices I have to know whether I’m supposed to bring converters and similar equipment.

I think that the voltage in Australia is 240V and if your devices don’t work on 240V at 50Hz, then you’ll need to bring additional equipment in order to be able to use them. My suggestion is that you bring voltage converters. But I have recently learned that not all voltage converters are the same. Namely, there are some called resistors, then transformers and the combo of these two. Resistors are not exactly suitable for digital devices such as laptops or cameras. They’re adequate for irons and similar appliances. Transformers are better because they’re more stable but unfortunately they’re bigger and heavier. So, it’s up to you to decide. Another important thing not to forget is that you bring plug adapters.
