There are not many gay friendly countries on our planet Earth. It’s hard to expect for a whole population of a dozen million people in some country to be gay friendly, right? But of course, we can find some cities at least, which tend to be more gay friendly than the other ones.

When we talk about gay friendly cities we should first mention gay neighborhoods, also known as gay villages. Those are locations, parts of the city, where large numbers of lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual people live. Gay villages are often containing many of gay-oriented establishments, such as gay bars or pubs, nightclubs, restaurants, bookstores and other. Cities with gay neighborhoods are obviously gay friendly. For all of you interested in gay villages there is a huge gay villages list on Wikipedia where you can find out every detail about it.

If you are still wondering where to go on a (gay) vacation and which city is the best for gay people, just keep on reading. Every day people are getting more and more liberal and open minded about many things, homosexuality included. That lead us to a conclusion that these kinds of articles (which you are reading at the moment) will become unnecessary because every city (and maybe the whole countries) will get used to live around homosexual people, there so, every country will automatically be gay friendly. But, until then, let us see which gay friendly cities you should visit.

The results below are an estimate from official research taken in USA by American Community Survey. The cities/states on the list are just showing in what parts of the country most homosexual people live.

The U.S. city with the largest gay population is New York, with an estimated 272,493 gay residents. Los Angeles is second with 154,270, followed by Chicago with 114,449 and San Francisco with 94,234.

There are also more cities in US like Phoenix, Houston, San Diego, Dallas, Seattle, Boston, Philadelphia and others. As for the states, the list looks like this: California, Florida, New York, Texas, Illinois, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Massachusetts, Washington and others.

From people’s point of view, the most gay friendly cities in US are absolutely San Francisco and Provincetown.

If you would like to know where to go in Europe and in the rest of the world, here is some info about gay friendly cities/countries based on people’s experiences from around the world. Good and gay friendly places to visit are:
