Hold down the ALT key and type 0225 on the number pad on the right-hand side of the keyboard. That will make . ALT+0224 makes .

More codes can be found in the program charmap.exe that comes with Windows. Keep in mind that not all fonts will have the same character sets.

You can add all kinds of stuff from the Insert menu at the top. Click on Symbol and select whatever symbol you want. You can even create your own hot keys for the ones you use the most.

Bonobo got it right. Just about any character you can think of can be made with the Character Map.

Free Quickie lesson :: &-deg-; except you need to remove the dashes, will produce the ° symbol.
