Women traveling alone to Tunisia ok?

Is it ok for a woman to travel to Tunisia alone? I have just broken up with my boyfriend and since we have planned to go to Tunisia together I don\t want to change my plans but I’m a bit scared to go there because I know that women in Islam have different position. Do you think that I would be safe there on my own? Maybe I’m just being irrational and maybe it’s just my fear talking.

Oh, dear! I’m so sorry to hear that you have split up. I’m always sad when I hear that two people are not together, even those I don’t know. It is so complicated sometimes. I know that many people are under the impression that all Islamic countries are repressive and that women are in an inferior position but I really don’t think that Tunisia as a country close to Europe and which has been a French colony has such strict rules. Anyway, I still wouldn’t suggest you to go there alone because it is better to be somewhere closer to home in your current situation so that you can call a friend or even go back if you feel too sad or lonely.
