Where to stay in Guadalajara?

I am from Phoenix, and next month I will have to go to Mexico. Since I realized that Ill be passing through Guadalajara on my way there, I was thinking of setting off a day or two earlier so that I could spend that time there just to see the city. Ive never been there and who knows when the road will take me in that direction again, which is why I d like to use this opportunity. So, does anyone have a good advice on a decent place to stay?

I happened to be there 3 months ago.
It wasnt exactly a part of my plan, but eventually I agreed to make a stop there. And I havent regretted at all. I found a very nice Hotel de Mendoza and chose it mostly because of its looks and location (in the historical center of the city). Later I heard people complaining about their rooms and service, but I had no such problems. My room was clean and comfortable, and the staff was incredibly polite and friendly. I stayed there over the weekend, so from my experience I have no reason why I should not recommend it to others.

Well, Guadalajara is a nice place. You have a lot to see. If you are going to stay for a day or two, this is not much time, so my advice is that you find a hotel in historic downtown. I have heard that there is a nice colonial and historical hotel named Morales. It's located in center of historical downtown.
Rooms, as I heard are pretty nice, and not too expensive.
Everything is near, so you will not waste your time on traveling.

But there are so much hotels in Guadalajara, so if anyone knows more good hotels, and places to visit, share it whit us...
