Since I will go to Germany this year for the first time in my life, besides seeing some cities I have always wanted to see, I would also like to know where I can see Holocaust memorials in this country. Many friends of mine are telling me that it will only spoil my mood, and that it would be better if I skip that part, but I am very determined to do so.

I understand you completely, because I wanted to do the same thing when I went to Germany. And it wasn’t pleasant and easy at all.
There are many all over Germany, but I will list you only a few:
the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site close to Munich, the Bergen-Belsen Memorial close to Hannover, the Sachsenhausen and Rqavensbrueck in Brandenburg.
