What to give as gift to host family in Chile? I am traveling to Chile and I need some tips about how I should behave towards the hosts and what I am expected to do as their guest. What are these people traditionally gifted and what do they like to be given as present? I am afraid I might offend them if I give them something they are not used to.

Well, I have never traveled this way because I am not a kind of person who likes to meet people in this way. Maybe staying at a host family is cheaper, but it certainly restricts you the freedom you would have at a hotel. I had some offers to stay at a host family, but not in Chile, and I refused because I would all the time have the impression that I owe something to them and that I should be grateful to them for giving me a place to sleep and daily meals although I would pay for that. Besides, I would have to talk to them about the things that might not be interesting to me; otherwise, I would be qualified as impolite. You should buy some small present with a symbolic function.
