I’m planning to travel to Italy for business before Christmas and I think I won’t have more than 3 days for pleasure… I wonder what is better to visit, Rome or Venice? I’ve never been to Italy and it’s my dream to see the Eternal City, but since I’m going to Verona, and I don’t have much time, maybe it’s better to go to Venice. I know it sounds stupid, but can somebody advice me and tell me what’s the difference between Rome and Venice?

| In my opinion it’s better to go to Venice, Verona is no more than 100 away. But sincerely, Rome is fantastic around Christmas, with the big Christmas tree in Vatican S. Peter’s Square … In Venice you won’t see any of roman ruins, and Rome, I suppose you know, is full of them. There is a big difference between Rome and Venice, Rome is much bigger and there are definitely more things to see, also medieval churches, renaissance and baroque palaces, museums of contemporary art, squares and fountains… Venice has its charm, its smaller and in some parts crowded with tourists, but there are lovely quiet parts where you can enjoy its beauty in its fullest. It’s up to you, but I suggest the Serenissima (that’s how Venice was called in the period when it was a Republic). |
