Hi. I visited NYC last month and I noticed that many people have a problem with New Jersey. Several cab drivers I spoke to had nasty things to say about the state, it seems to be a bit like the Welsh and the English making fun of each other! What is the problem? What is this all about? Please react, as I am puzzled!

Well done for noticing! There is a long-running rivalry going on between NYC and New Jersey, this goes back to the colonial days and is unlikely to stop anytime soon! In the beginning it was all to do with trade, and I think this is still the case today. New Jersey offers incentives to any business moving there from NY. On the other hand, as well as the competition there is also an inevitable close cooperation.
