Instead of spending my vacation in Greece this year, I’ll have to go to Turkey because it is more affordable and my great wish has always been to see some ancient Greek sites and towns. But since I’ll be in Gemlik a friend of mine has told me that there is an ancient Greek city nearby. Do you know anything about it?

I am also not very fond of Turkey, but I guess that those are prejudices which are not based on reality. Gemlik is situated on the shores of the Sea of Marmara and it is a place where you can enjoy if you like olives as it is famous for the production of those great vegetables. Anyway, your friend is right because there is an ancient Greek city near Gemlik. It is Kios or as they sometimes call it Cius. Unfortunately I think that you won’t see much of the ancient Greek remains as there are only few of them now. But still, I’m sure that the very idea that you are standing on the grounds of the city that has existed who knows how many centuries is so magnificent.
