Versailles in one day

I would love to visit Versailles, but I only have a day for that trip. Can you suggest me some train or bus, and tell me what parts of Versailles to see? Is this trip worth paying for? I heard that I will have to pay ticket for the gardens, and when I want to see the palace, I will have to pay again, different price. Is that true?

My advice is to buy "Le Passporte" for 25 euros. This includes the round trip train and admission to both the palace and gardens. This also gets you the self tour headphones and the tram transportation on the grounds. Well worth the price and is all inclusive, except food. I suggest you to take at least two days for that trip!
