I’m going to Istanbul on a business trip very soon and since I like to gather information about the place I’m visiting I have discovered that there is a big lake bear the city – Lake Iznik. Now, since I’d like to stay for a couple of days in Turkey after I finish my business in order to relax I am wondering whether it is possible to swim in this lake. I mean, it isn’t polluted or something? Thanks!

This is one of the largest lakes in Turkey and it is great that you are going to visit it since there are many interesting things to see. Namely, numerous ancient ruins as well as archeological sites can be seen near the lake. The lake is situated near the city of the same name and there are buildings and architecture that dates back to ancient history and you can see how the city developed over the course of time. Now about the lake. It is beautiful and, at least at the first sight, calm mass of water and Ii can’t claim but I think that it is fairly clean. People were swimming and I reckon that swimming was allowed, at least at the time I was there. Besides, I have seen some birds, which looked like ducks, swimming in the lake and I think that it can be a proof that the water is clean.
