Is International Driver's License necessary for Italy?

I have been planning to go on a holiday this summer. It seems to me that it is a good idea to go to Italy. It seems like a really good and attractive choice. However, as I have never been there before, and I am going by car, I would like to know if I need International Driver's License. Thanks in advance.

Italy is one of the best places for relaxation I have ever visited, and I have been to many before. There are plenty of things to be seen and done. Going there by car is really a good choice, as it will allow you freedom and flexibility you would not have otherwise to such a degree. You need International Driver's License in Italy, especially if you want to rent a car. If you are coming by your own you still need it, as fines are extremely high if you are caught without it.
