| I would like to go to some European countries and rent a car there. I have heard it is not enough to have my own driving license, but also an International Drivers License. I am not sure how to obtain it, so if anyone could help, it would help me a lot. Thanks in advance. |

| First of all, you are right that you need an international equivalent of your domestic driving license, but be very careful. What is called International Drivers License is usually a completely worthless document, issued to fool its owner. There have been many scandals concerning frauds with it. What you need is International Drivers Permit. That is your permit, translated into several languages, and is valid only in combination. You cannot show only the international permit, without showing your own standard one. You can get such a permit from either American Automobile Association, or the American Automobile Touring Alliance. Contact them for more information, but in any case, the procedure is rather simple: you need to submit an application, pay some fee, and wait some time, not too long. Hope this helps. |
