Do you think that trip to Mozambique is safe?

I am thinking about going to Africa in order to visit some friends who went there few months ago. They planned only to investigate some options but the stayed there. I and my sister are planning to visit Mozambique and Zambia but I am worried. Do you think that trip to Mozambique is safe?

Although you may hear or read about the crime rate in Mozambique it is not that bad. I mean you can get mugged or something like that but there are not many violent crimes against foreigners there. Carjacking is common in some cities so you should pay attention if you are driving.

There are also some people who will throw themselves in front of the car driven by the tourist in order to get reparation. As for the safety on the streets, well, you have to pay attention when you are walking at night. The worst part of the city is on Avenida Marginal between Waterfront Restaurant and former Holiday Inn (I think that it is called Southern Sun now). So, I suggest you avoid that route.
