| What I would like to know is if it is necessary to purchase train tickets in advance in Spain, or I have been wrong informed. I plan to spend two weeks in Barcelona, and go on a few day trips during those two weeks, so, since traveling by train is the best option in this case, this is a very important information for me. |

Well, I guess that it depends on which time of the year you have chosen to go to Barcelona. When it is high season, it is overcrowded with tourists and at that time, it is really necessary either to book the tickets a few days in advance, or to purchase them. Otherwise, you will probably have to stand all the way to your final destination.
