I am going to spend some time in Amsterdam; I hope it will be a month or so. My brother went there last year and got some steady job and is slowly settling down. I hope he will make it there and I also hope I will have a good time. I am not so sure if he will be able to show me much of the town, since he works entire day and is tired in the evening. This means that I am on my own, so what about tours in Amsterdam? I have heard that canal tours should be interesting?

Yes, those could be very interesting, especially when the weather is bad (rainy) so there is no much point roaming around city. Piers that you would be starting from are near central station. There are several companies that organize these tours so pick one and go. You would be able to see a lot of interesting spots in Amsterdam this way, and to hear a lot of different languages along the way, since there are always tourists on the trip.
