Are European plug outlets standard?

Can you tell me are European plug outlets standard? Im traveling to Europe next week and Im going to stay there for two weeks. Since its a business trip, Ill have to bring all the gadgets, lap top, iPod, cell phones and similar. Is the voltage there the same as in the USA and do I need something to protect these electrical devices when I plug them in?

There are differences between American and European electricity system. Plug outlets also differ. In the continental Europe these are standardized, while in the UK theyre not the same as in Europe. Voltage in America is 110-120V and voltage is 60Hz, while in Europe these values are 220V and 50Hz. This means that all your gadgets and appliances would most certainly be destroyed if you plug them in without a converter that converts voltage. Youll also need a plug adapter because you wouldnt be able to plug your devices in without it. A transformer is another thing that you should bring with you. Generally speaking you should be cautious and always plug out your appliances during the night and when youre not in your apartment. Also, certain hotels in Europe have old electric wirings which can also be dangerous.
