Are Cape Verde Islands Portugeese or African?

Hello! I've got a problem and I really hope you can help me. You see I'm a bit confused with these African islands. Or should I better say Portuguese. I'm having a problem with Cape Verde Islands. Can you tell me who do they belong to? I'd really appreciate your help so thanks in advance!

Hi! Cape Verde Islands are independent, so you could say theyre African. Portuguese came in 15. century and occupied the islands. Islands were important as an watering station, and the land was used for sugar cane plantation and huge slave market in those dark times. About 40 years ago islands became independent.
