Anyone visited Tajikistan? My company is establishing a branch there and Im supposed to go there and train the staff. Ill be staying there for over a month and Im not exaggerating if I say that Im desperate about that. All I know that its not too urban and western oriented. And I dont even know where it is located. Tell me what I can expect there.

Ouch! I have never been there, but I can tell you, its not going to be fun. I mean, the country suffered a lot during the five-year war from 1992-1997 and although it managed to stabilize during the past few years, the situation is still not great. Its comparatively safe there now. As for the culture, the Tajik people have similar culture and customs as Iranian people. Its located in the Middle East, and shares borders with China, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Afghanistan. The capital, Dushanbe, has a problem with radiation since uranium can be found in nearby mountains. So, dont expect Manhattan and rich cultural life. I think youll have to try to find some fun on your own.
