I have some old relatives in Glasgow and my mother insist that we visit them this summer. Maybe I’m a bad person but I really don’t like the fact that I will have to spend a couple of days entertaining two old bats instead of having fun. Anyway, I think that my stay would be bearable if there is some literary festival in Glasgow while I’m there.

I completely understand how you feel. My mother always wants me to accompany her while she’s visiting relatives and she won’t take no for an answer. That is only because I’m not married yet and she thinks I don’t have a life of my own. Glasgow is a great city and that it the point of view that you should have at this particular situation. Imagine that you have to go to some secluded village in the middle of nowhere. This is a city with very rich cultural life and though I don’t think that there are literary festivals in particular but there is a wide variety of other festivals such as the Merchant City Festival which includes all sorts of cultural events. It takes place during September and I don’t know whether that suits you.
