I am going to Rome next month, and since I have a week, I think I might be able to visit one more Italian city. I am thinking about Florence and Venice, because of their beauty and historical importance. But, the reason for visiting it is at the same time a reason for not visiting it - it has so much to offer that I will most definitely have to make a selection. So, Tuscany maybe? Any suggestions?

Hi there. Your decision certainly depends on your plans if and when to visit Italy next time. If you plan to visit it, then I would advise you to focus on Rome, and then go for another smaller town at Tuscany. But if you didn't make any plans for coming back soon, than in my opinion even a single day in Florence or Venice is a must. Florence offers you a beautiful insight into Renaissance architecture, while Venices attractions, canals and bridges, might in a certain period of time vanish, because you may have heard about sea levels rising which puts Venice in a moderate danger of being flooded. So, because of that go to Venice this time.
